a love letter

天氣無常的春天
春風不定的日子
心且未融化
卻也慢慢入春
如今
春光明亮
我已心動
願用一生動筆
而你
何時來尋我
細讀我
這封情書

English translation:
Changeable weather in the spring,
unsettling spring wind during the day.
The heart that has not yet melted
still slowly entered the spring.
And now,
spring lights bright and clear,
I am already moved by heart
and willing to use my whole life to move my pen.
As for you
When will you find me
to carefully read me.
This love letter

This poem is inspired by Julian Cheung when he was asked to write a love letter to his wife Anita Yuen during a television show in Mainland China. Touched as I was when I first encountered Cheung’s words, inspired I became to write a love letter myself. Despite the fact that I do not have my Anita Yuen on the receiving end yet, I still strive to express my current state of mind when it comes to love.

所以
真要寫一封情書給你的話
我會用一生去寫
而妳
也請花一世去細讀

English translation:
Therefore
If I must write a love letter to you
I will use my whole life to write it
As for you
I also ask you to spend a lifetime to carefully read it

– the end of Julian Cheung’s letter.

I was so touched by his words and my translation does not do him justice, but I sincerely hope that those of you who cannot read or understand Chinese can feel his genuine love toward Anita Yuen through my humble translation. Read Julian Cheung’s entire love letter here! (NB! Chinese article, no English translation.)
